What’s up, readers!??
Pittsburgh metal. Good stuff. FREE. Read about it, download it. You won’t regret it, and I won’t stop bugging you until you do it. Seriously.
A whole bunch of the bands who have songs on that comp are playing shows this weekend, along with a whole bunch of other bands. If you’re in the Pittsburgh region over the next couple days, you’ll want to pay attention because here’s your guide to what awesomeness you might have missed if I wasn’t here to help you out!

Punk Show in Charleroi!
with Death Camp, MorgueMart, Scattergun, and Lords of Salem
Saturday 28 July 2012 | 7-10 pm | $5 | ALL AGES, must be 21+ with valid ID to drink!
at the Charleroi VFW
609 McKean Avenue, Charleroi
This extremely rare Mon Valley-area show features Death Camp, coming all the way from Rochester NY, alongside MorgueMart’s first show in their hometown, EVER (despite existing for about nine years)! Also appearing are Pittsburgh’s Scattergun, and another Charleroi native, Lords of Salem, playing their first show anywhere, ever.
I understand that it’s the promoters’ intention to demonstrate to local venues that hosting punk/metal shows can be a positive experience, in contrast with some unfortunate incidents that may have occurred in the past. Bringing more shows to the Valley is definitely something that will benefit everyone — myself included, since that’s a lot closer to where I live than Pittsburgh!
Keeping with that theme, the name of the game here is:
NO DRAMA, NO DRUGS, NO VIOLENCE.
RESPECT THE VENUE AND COME HAVE SOME FUN!
Additionally, some of the bands involved are in the midst of collecting items for charitable causes:
OK! IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN! YOUR FRIENDS IN SCATTERGUN ARE COLLECTING SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO SEND THE KIDS BACK TO SCHOOL FULLY EQUIPPED AND READY TO LEARN!!
FACT: 22% OF ALL CHILDREN IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY LIVE BELOW THE POVERTY LINE.
FACT: SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS A NEW BACKPACK CAN SIGNIFICANTLY RAISE A CHILDS SELF ESTEEM!
FACT: GOOD SELF ESTEEM LENDS TO A CHILD’S DESIRE TO LEARN!
FACT: YOU CHANGE THE WORLD BY SHOWING A CHILD YOU CARE.
SO COME ON, JOIN THE REVOLUTION AND DONATE! YOU CAN GO TO ANY DOLLER OR DISCOUNT STORE AND GET A BACK PACK AND FILL IT WITH NOTEBOOKS, PENCILS, AND PENS FOR UNDER 10 BUCKS!! BRING THE FULL BACK PACK TO ANY SCATTERGUN SHOW BEFORE THE END OF AUGUST SO THE SCHOOL SUPPLIES CAN BE DISTRIBUTED TO THE KIDS THAT NEED THEM BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS.
AS A THANKS FOR YOUR GENEROSITY YOU WILL GET THE PROUD FEELING OF KNOWING YOU CONTRIBUTED IN SOME SMALL WAY TO BENEFIT A CHILDS FUTURE!!!!
OK… AND YOU WILL ALSO BE ENTERED IN A DRAWING TO WIN SOME COOL SCATTERGUN STUFF!!
PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU!
Any parents or others coming to MorgueMart’s show at the Charleroi VFW on July 28th, please bring any used children’s DVDs to donate to help the Charleroi Library make the transition from old school library to a new (cyber) library. Below is a link to what the library needs help with…
Oh, and while we’re on the subject, you can check out my review of MorgueMart’s recent CD Skeleton of the American Dream here. You’ll be able to grab a copy of that CD at Saturday’s show, but the band also recently stated that you’re welcome to download it FOR FREE here, and burn a copy for yourself or for a friend!

A crushing barrage of punk and metal
with Wrought Iron, Tombstalker, Iron Crown, and Squatch Kill
Saturday 28 July 2012 | 9:00pm | $6
Upstairs at Kopec’s Bar
3523 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh (Lawrenceville)

Southern-fried stoner rock comes to Pittsburgh!
with Hellbender, Below, Secret Tombs, and Low Man
Saturday 28 July 2012 | 9:00pm | $5 Cover, $1.50 PBR Pints | 21+ only
at the Inn Termission Lounge
1908 East Carson Street, Pittsburgh (South Side)
Nashville TN’s Hellbender is on a summer tour supporting their recent split with Across Tundras, and bringing along their friends Below from Lexington KY. Both bands are steeped in the psychedelic, with Hellbender skewing more toward the swirling Hawkwind/Stooges vein, while Below channels their inner-metalhead with growling vocals over doomy Earth-like riffage.
And showing their southern friends a little northern hospitality are Pittsburgh’s favorite mysterious stinger punk three-piece Secret Tombs with their Dead Moon-esque jamming, and Low Man, a couple of local grungy desert rockers who want to make your booty shake to songs about doing drugs. Can you dig it?
