Winter’s Wake Winterview: Meth Quarry

Hello, once more! Time keeps ticking away, it’s almost time to go to Winter’s Wake tonight!

Here’s another band interview! I talked to Adam Joseph Bailey, the vocalist from Meth Quarry, about what’s been happening with that band since I spoke with them back in December.

Admittedly, this interview was even more brief than most of them have been, but I already covered most of the topics — such as how the band formed and their entire history, all of their influences and how they molded their unique “Grim Dirge Hardcore” sound — in the much more in-depth interview from December. To learn everything there is to know about this band, go read it!

Here’s what Adam told me about the band’s latest developments:

VOS: Thanks a lot for helping me out with these questions. So the last time I talked to you guys, you were just getting prepared for your first show. Now you’ve done several in the past couple months, and they seem to have gone over really well. Seems like you guys have turned into a bit of a hot commodity around town! How do you feel about all the buzz that’s been generated? Have you been surprised at all by the reaction you’ve gotten?

AJB: I’m very surprised at the buzz we have gotten. We have only played five shows so far and everyone seems to be digging it. It’s the greatest feeling in the world having people come up to you and say they loved our set or heard good things about us. Especially when it comes from a fellow musician you have been listening to for years like Joe Mack from ComFail.

VOS: Now that the first several shows are out of the way, I guess the next logical step would be to get something recorded. Any plans along those lines? What does the near future have in store for Meth Quarry?

AJB: Our next step is definitely to record. We are hoping to record an entire album this spring. We have been in contact with “Ru Dog” [Chris Ruane], the drummer from Fist Fight, to record us in a live setting. We have shirts, patches, stickers, and buttons, but no recordings for people to check us out. We also have a show March 3rd with Welkin Dusk, Heartless, Wrought Iron, and Unstitched which I am looking forward to.

VOS: And the last thing, since I’ve been asking everybody this, what other bands playing at Winter’s Wake are you really looking forward to seeing?

AJB: I am really looking forward to seeing Black Anvil; their album Time Insults the Mind is one of my favorite black metal albums. Also, Vektor is doing some amazing things with the thrash genre. It’ll also be great to see Liquified Guts and Vulture as always.

VOS: Sounds great, thanks again!
