Good morning, everyone! For those Pittsburgh-area folks out there, the weather looks a bit gloomy and chilly at the moment, but on the news they’re saying it’s supposed to get sunnier and more pleasant as the day goes on — which is perfect, because this afternoon and evening will be the third annual installment of Heavy Metal Monessen, the FREE outdoor concert that includes a wide variety of local metal talent at the amphitheater in the heart of the city park in Monessen (Mon Valley, Westmoreland County, PA)!

Laboriously put together by the Heavy Metal Monessen folks and sponsored by 91.9 WCAL (California, PA) and The River’s Edge (Pittsburgh), here is the scheduled line-up for this year’s festival!

Altogether the show will be running from 1-8 pm; there are two different stages this year so downtime between bands should be reduced to a minimum. They say there will be food vendors onsite but you’re also welcome to bring your own picnic lunch or whatever (but probably no alcohol or glass bottles in the park — I can’t find any official rules online anywhere, but that seems to be pretty standard).

Looks like it’s gonna be a great show, with a little something for everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Old Lords or Solarburn but I can guarantee they both put on a great show. And there are plenty of names here that sound familiar but I just haven’t had the chance to see yet (for example Tartarus has been opening a lot of great shows in the area recently, including Absu in Pittsburgh last night) — and I’m sure there are several here that maybe you haven’t seen, or perhaps haven’t even heard of, but you may end up really enjoying! It’s free, the weather is supposed to be lovely, the City Park is a nice place to hang out and they usually get a pretty great sound at the Amphitheater, so why not stop by??
