Specifically, the Finnish masters of “humppa” style folk metal, Finntroll, and the originators of “True Norwegian Balkan Metal”, TrollfesT, are both coming to North America later this year — separately, although each of them will be part of a tour package that will surely have any fan of folk/pagan metal salivating with anticipation! Even better, both bands will be making a stop in Pittsburgh!!
Stay tuned, because there will be lots more of these, as more shows take place throughout the second half of this year! Just keep checking back, or better yet, subscribe to the channel and you can get notifications whenever there’s something new for you to watch.
As an added bonus for making it ALL the way to the end of this lengthy retrospective, here is the full-sized version of the photo collage that was posted on Facebook. (Click to enlarge).
The Smiling Moose (South Side / Pittsburgh, PA), 31 May 2013
Dethlehem – “Valley of the Blades” and “Oathbound” (New Song)
The week of this show marked the birthdays of two of the band’s members (drummer Overlord Brom and guitarist Hildor), so the audience joined in singing to them. Here’s a video of that, plus the song “Sky Palace of the Dragonriders” (with a guest appearance by former vocalist Lord Bonecrush, currently a member of Supervoid):
Wrought Iron also played at this show, and I swear I got video of one, maybe two, of their songs. But apparently those haven’t been uploaded to YouTube. I’ll have to search for them and make sure they didn’t just disappear into the ether or something…
Valley of Steel private picnic event (South Park, PA), 08 June 2013
Solarburn rehearsal space (Allentown / Pittsburgh, PA), 05 May 2013
Solarburn and Pipewrench were playing another show together this evening. We were just on our way home from Ohio (from the Cleveland show the night before), but we’d been invited to go hand out with Solarburn before the show. At their practice space, we caught the following video of a brand new song they’d been working on…
“O.P.H.A.F.O.” (“Our Pets’ Heads are Falling Off”)
The Smiling Moose (South Side / Pittsburgh, PA), 05 May 2013
Cafe Bourbon Street and The Summit (Columbus, Ohio)
Red Sun were celebrating the tenth anniversary of their band’s formation, so they invited a whole bunch of their friends to come play with them at two neighboring venues in Columbus. Here are videos of most of the bands that were there.
Belvederes Ultra-Dive (Lawrenceville / Pittsburgh, PA), 22 March 2013
This was quite an interesting show: as originally conceived, they were going to set up four bands in the four corners of the room, with the audience in the center. Each band would take turns playing one song at a time. Well, once they got all the equipment in there, they realized that there wouldn’t be much room for anyone to watch, so they changed it so that two bands would set up and play, and then the other two bands. At the end, both in the original line-up and in what eventually transpired, Oh Shit They’re Going to Kill Us played a set by themselves, up on the stage.
Come Holy Spirit – “Bywater”, followed by Flora Fauna – “Ithaca”
Slaves BC rehearsal space (Bellevue / Pittsburgh, PA), 24 March 2013
These guys were supposed to play a show on this particular evening, but due to faulty communication or some such thing, that ended up falling through. Not to be discouraged, the band adjourned to its basement rehearsal space, with everyone who’d showed up to see them…
